Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Sunday Faith Formation program for 3-6 year old children. It is
offered on Sunday mornings from 9-10 am. Drop-off and pick-up is in the school lobby.
The children encounter Jesus, the Good Shepherd, who loves them, cares for them and knows them by name.
The program includes scripture, gestures of the mass, prayers, artwork and music. The children gather in a
room prepared especially for them, to work with hands-on materials that bring scripture and liturgy to life.
The catechist listens with the child and together they ask, “God who are you? How do you love us?”
The focus of CGS is to deepen the child’s existing relationship with God and encourage the formation of a
personal prayer life, to participate more fully in the liturgical and sacramental life of the Church and to
develop a deeper understanding of Catholic identity and tradition.
CGS was developed by Hebrew and Scripture scholar Sofia Cavalletti and Montessori educator Gianna Gobbi in Rome in 1954 and is now embraced worldwide. CGS gives parents the opportunity to attend Mass and encourages time for their own spiritual formation on Sunday mornings.
